Maruti Ertiga is all set give some stiff competition to the likes of Toyota Innova in January. The company is now ready to set foot in the multipurpose vehicle (MPV) segment, for the first time. The company is now looking to spread its business across the entire length and breadth of the car market and ensure that not even a single area remains untargeted by the leader in the auto car market.

Maruti has the distinction of being India's largest car maker. In fact the company sells every second car in the country has decided not to rest on its past laurels and is all set to very soon unwrap its first MPV, the Ertiga. This invariably lead to a serious threat in the already existing car brands in the segment. Ertiga made its debut in India with a huge platform in the form of Auto Expo. and at that time the Ertiga was showcased as the RIII concept.

The seven-seater multi utility vehicle has been brought to the Indian market, with the purpose of serving the buyers' demand for a vehicle having a larger wheel base and increased stance. As a result, the MPV can easily be used as a family car, which can be purchased at an affordable price tag of around Rs. 6 lacs to Rs. 9 lacs. Company sources confirmed that the affordability factor of the MPV Ertiga would remain intact, however further details were kept under covers.

The Ertiga has the dimensions of a standard mini MPV with 4.2 metre length and 2740 mm wheelbase. Light weight materials contribute majorly in giving the interiors a more luxury look.

“The Ertiga won’t have Innova-levels of space, but middle and last-row occupants will get roof-mounted AC vents from improved cooling. Engine options will include the popular 1.3 litre Variable Geometry Turbo diesel from the SX4. Suzuki will also debut its latest and largest engine from the K-series family on the MPV called the K14, this 1372 cc VVT engine delivers a decent 95 bhp,” AutoCar said.

The MPV is expected to compete with the likes of other MPV like Chevrolet Tavera, Tata Sumo Victa, and Mahindra Bolero, Mahindra Scorpio.
