Image result for XUV500

The official verdict is out. Earlier codenamed as the W201 is now the new Mahindra XUV 500 which will be on the roads from the 28th September 2011. The car is one of kind because it has been built with significant inputs from customers across the globe. The company further cleared that it will launch the much anticipated one of a kind SUV on the September 28, 2011. After this the pricing, strategy and technology behind the vehicle would be announced the next day before a visit to the Chakan plant and test drives.

The car has been completely conceptualized, designed and created at the company’s R & D unit at Chennai with the main focus point being the end customer. The engine is again a first of a kind transverse engine. The novelty does not end here. In fact even the design of the car is based on the monocoque design which just takes out of the box features to a different level. Apart from being different, the car has also adheres to top notch standards, quality, technology, testing, norms, regulations and emissions.

Mahindra has not taken success lightly despite the huge sales of Mahindra Scorpio, Mahindra Bolero and the recently launched Mahindra Thar. The company does not want to rest on its laurels and it is the manufacturer’s first attempt at a vehicle aiming at different driving terrains and customers across the globe.

Even the name of the car has not been spared. The 00 in the XUV 500 means double 00 similar to 007 in the famous spy character, the James bond. The overall built of the car is carefully balanced with good proportions distributed all over. The car over all has an imposing stance slightly bending forward which is the final outcome with most monocoque or unibody constructions.

From the computer graphic generated images of the car it is evident that the car has high elevated swept back floodlights. The curvy Mahindra grille as usual rounds off the overall exterior looks making for an eye catching delight. The elevating beltline and tapered roof give it an air of compactness. All these changes are from reports so if Mahindra does not have any other surprises up its sleeve then the XUV 500 will surely be the most attractive product from the house of Mahindra and Mahindra. All this will set up a perfect platform for the M&M, which is hoping its next gen vehicles will put it par with auto makers around the world.

The car has a transversely located 2.2-litre mHawk engine and a new transaxle, specifically developed for the “XUV500” entirely from scratch. The gear transmission is a novelty as well with five and six speed options made with assistance from Ricardo. The engine will have a power of up to 120 to 140 bhp with torque of 32.6 kgm. Then there are the surprise elements like the traction control, ESP, hill descent control capable of handling any terrain.

The XUV 500 will make its debut in India and South Africa and is later slated for releases all over the world. The car will simultaneously come in both two wheel and four wheel drive options. The XUV500 till date can be held as Mahindra’s litmus test product. The car will be positioned above the Scorpio and it could cost around Rs 13 lakh for the base 2WD version.

Honda seems to be back on the road and with a lot of punch as well. With the launch of its cheapest car till date the ‘Brio’, the company seems to have finally hit the right nodes.

The hatchback Brio is already looked upon as a strong competitor to the likes of the Hyundai i10 and Chevrolet Beat. The car is already available on the roads from the 27th September 2011 and has a starting price of Rs. 3.95 lacs onwards for the base variant.

The company is no mood to relax and seems to have learnt its lessons from the past and is not resting on its laurels. Honda is now all set to heed to the market demands and is looking forward to launch diesel cars in India. The move is seen as response to the market demands for the diesel variants and the rising petrol prices.

The work on the diesel engines has already started in Japan, said Honda Siel Cars India Senior Vice-President (Sales and Marketing), Jnaneswar Sen, said. "The Research and Development team in Japan is developing diesel engines. It is premature to say that the products will be rolled out on diesel (platform)," he told reporters here.

However the exact time for the release of the diesel versions have not been revealed and said the diesel cars was only for the Indian market due to the specific market demand for these cars. The company said the diesel engine is not being developed for the global markets as there is no such cue of affiliation towards diesel cars and most of the markets worldwide prefer petrol cars.

On the market expectations from the just launched "Brio" that was formally launched earlier this October, he said "Honda is targeting first time buyers and those who already own a Honda vehicle".

The car will launch the entire variants in the BMW Mini inclusive of the BMW Cooper, BMW Countryman, BMW Clubdoor and the BMW Cabrio. The high end Clubman would reportedly be priced at the 30 lakh range which would also include a total sports deal and accessories.

The history of the Mini dates back to as early as the year 1960. The Mini is one of the pioneers among the cars of the then Great Britain. In fact these cars are said to mark the beginning of a new era in the automotive world. The maximum space utilization design, front wheel drive option, smooth and good old sporty designs today has become the trademark of many a cars to follow. Take for example even the case of the best seller Suzuki Swift. The Swift too carries the same legacy. The mini is still reeling in large sales with annual figures of up to 2.34 lakh cars being sold every year all over the world. The highest sales happen in the US followed by Britain, Germany and Japan.

"The Mini comes to India finally after years of hectic feasibility and surveys," BMW India President Andreas Schaaf, adding the company will showcase the car in the Auto Expo in January 2012.

The Mini will look to fill the void that the small luxury cars have not been able to fill. The Mini will look to prove its mettle where its counterparts like the Volkswagen Beetle and Fiat 500 could not find too many buyers. The figures reveal that the Volkswagen Beetle has just managed sales of 620 cars right from its launch. Fiat has just sold 100 units. Schaff, however, said the Indian market is changing. "We are selling close to 20,000 luxury cars annually and now the customers are willing to spend money on smaller famed brands. Mini perfectly fits into the definition and India is now a mature market for premium luxury small cars," BMW India president said.

The Mini is expected to be accompanied by other luxury hatchbacks like the Mercedes-Benz BClass and the Audi A3 next year. Like in all the other markets across the world, the Mini will be sold as a separate brand, with a range of varieties for customization. These cars would be sold independently from the BMW's other cars such as the 5 Series, the 7 Series and SUVs such as the X5 and the X6.

"We plan to market it as a sporty car with iconic value. It will be a chunky and overtly masculine brand and positioned as a top-notch performer with high levels of customization," Schaff said.

Renault Clio Car Will Race Ahead of the Indian F1

Image result for renault clio

Renault Clio will be the new small car on the eve the most awaited Indian Grand Prix. The company plans to put the car on the roads by early stages of 2012. The car is expected to be a family hatchback and the first look can be expected ahead of the opening race on October 30th.

Renault and Nissan chairman CEO Carlos Ghosn will start the honors of unveiling the car which is expected to be showcased at Delhi Auto Expo in January next year. The company believes that the Formula 1 will be the perfect launch pad for car maker’s effort to advertise the upcoming small car Renault Clio. Renault has been on a war footing since its break down with Mahindra & Mahindra and since then has launched two new products in to the Indian market.

The company seems to have well thought out approach for the auto market. They have cars that suit all the consumer classes. Renault has a top-down approach which is proved by the fact the company has launched two premium car that include the Renault Koleos crossover and the Renault Fluence sedan. The car maker, with the new small car will be hoping to generate volumes. The Renault Clio is looked upon as an arch rival to the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Swift and the Nissan Micra.

Renault is looking to use its popularity and the reach of Formula 1 and in turn leverage it to promote their upcoming car. The Formula 1 Team of the Renault has been doing fairly well in the 2011 season.

The move from Renault also stem from the fact that now the demand is now shifting towards small cars in the Indian market. The Renault Clio hatchback is the newbie to the very crowded, ultra competitive segment of the Indian car market.
Renault India made it clear during the 2010 Auto Expo that it was all set to launch the Fluence Sedan and Koleos Crossover in India during the 2011 and has already kept its promise. Now it has made the fog clear on launch of the hatchback Clio in India.

“The idea behind Ghosn coming to India for the compact car is to generate the excitement around the vehicle,” a source said. “Formula One will give the biggest platform for the launch. Renault has been associated with F1 for a long time.”

Mercedes Benz and Renault Gear up for the Indian F1

Image result for buddh f1
Mercedes Benz and Renault are raring to go at India’s maiden Grand Prix with some aggressive car launches and marketing pit stops lined up before the actual race begins.

Ferrari leads the pack in the line up to the race on October 30. The car maker has already launched models of race track cars, drives, games and loads of stuff to keep the audience seated to their brand.

Mercedes on the other hand is going young and is keener on the youth segment. The Renault not be forgotten is having an all India brand expansion plan.

"F1 coming to India will change the way companies look at sporting events other than cricket," said Abdul Majeed, auto practice leader, PricewaterhouseCoopers. "It is a high-viewership, high-impact sport," he stated.

Mercedes started off the trend by taking the first bold step. In August the company became an associate sponsor for all motor sporting events at the Budhh International Circuit in Greater Noida for the next couple of years.

The tickets for the event are also expected to be sold at all the Mercedes showrooms in India. They are also having plans of setting up exhibition stalls to sell merchandise and other motor gears. This they say this is to bridge the gap between the actual race and audience.

Mercedes is currently the second most leading premium car maker in India lead by the BMW. The Mercedes seems to lose out in terms of its brand perception by the audience that it is more of a high profile executive car. The leader BMW is an attractive lot with both the young and the working professional as well.

On the other hand the Renault, has sped with a sales figure of 700 cars since its India launch in May. They are in no mood stop with three more cars expected to be in the pipeline by the end of the year. Renault has already flooded the auto markets with the Renault Koleos, Renault Fluence and the Renault Duster is expected to be on the roads by the year end.

In fact the XUV500 is looked as the mark of a new beginning from Mahindra and Mahindra. It reflects the company’s growing aspirations towards the global market. M&M Vice-Chairman Anand Mahindra said: "XUV500 is much more than a car. It will be another cult vehicle, as Scorpio was."

Goenka said the XUV500, the company has spent a whopping 650 crore just to develop the car. It is the first product from its Chennai research and development centre. It will be produced at the Chakan plant. He said the new vehicle would "redefine M&M as the Scorpio did nine years back".

As of now the company has no sales figures to compete with and will have a wait and watch look. Officials said M&M has made arrangements for an initial production capacity of 2,000 units a month.

The XUV is also a first of its kind vehicle for Mahindra in many ways. The Mahindra XUV 500 also owns the distinction of being the country’s first indigenously developed monocoque SUV. It is also equipped with a novel transverse engine from the Mahindra. The XUV 500 is truly niche and world class and this is further exemplified in the way it was conceptualized and created. Right from ensuring the global standards, quality, technology, testing norms, regulations and emissions every aspect related to the car has not at all been comprised.
The Mahindra XUV 500 SUV will be run by a 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine and generates a maximum power of 140 bhp and a torque of 326 Nm. The M-Hawk engine is now in an east-west layout as against a north-south placement in other Mahindra vehicles. The list of first time just does not end here. The car also has a six speed manual gearbox, developed in house by Mahindra itself as is the front wheel drive transfer case. The entry level variants will be front wheel drive while another version will have an all wheel drive layout with a torque on demand mechanism also delivering drive to the rear wheels.

The front grille of the XUV 500 is also a first of its kind with projector headlamps, LED day time running lights, large front bumper with streaked air dam and recessed fog lamps make for an aggressive finish.

The car is equipped with disc brakes on all wheels. The safety is encapsulated with ABS, EBD, and ESP. The front seats have air bags. The start/stop is a standard attachment and it also has a hill descent control for the top line offering.
