Mahindra to Bring the Cheapest Sports Utility Car

Mahindra and Mahindra is gearing up to release a mini SUV at a mind boggling starting price of just Rs 3-4 lakh. In fact work on the project has already begun almost a year earlier. The Indian SUV leader is teaming up with the South Korean Ssangyong Motors to bring up this latest marvel.

The company is expected to come up with car in 28 months and is currently working under the secret codename S101 for the new SUV. The car will come in two fuel versions with the petrol variant to be propelled by a 1-1.2 litre engine, while the diesel version will be equipped with a more robust 1.5 litre engine.

If the company launches the vehicle with the speculated price of around Rs 3-4 lakh this would be the cheapest SUV across the world. There has been no official confirmation on any of these reports from the company but the reports are from a reputed news source in the auto industry. As per those media reports the company has already over a hundred engineers working on the project and will use the expertise of Ssangyong, to launch the ultra low cost SUV.

The company will be able to draw a new line of consumers who are looking for a low cost SUV. If the SUV is able to carry off with style and a robust performance the car will surely give a run for its money to the low cost and mid segment cars in the market. The fact that the SUV market in India has also not fully realized its potential will work in the favour of the company. Currently SUV cars from MNC automakers come at a premium price tag of 15-20 lakh and Indian car makers offer the same at a price tag of Rs 6.5 lakh.

The Latest Car From Nissan Is the NV200

Nissan NV200 is the latest creation from the house of Nissan Motors. The car is expected to be a alternative to the likes of the Toyota Innova and the Xylo in the desi auto market.

From pre launch reports the CEO of Hover Automotive India told that the NV 200 will be completely made from the scratch at the Chennai unit of Nissan Motors. The sales, services, accessories, promotional strategies and dealerships will be handled by Hover on behalf of Nissan Motors in India.

“NV 200 is an international product and is a preferred vehicle for the taxi segment and for business needs. In India, NV 200 will be positioned to appeal to both the taxi segment as well as business customers”, he said. “However, it is difficult to tell the exact time when the NV 200 will be launched”.

Mr. Jain also added that “This will be made in India, for the India”. He further added that it is not decided if the car will be called NV 200 in India or will be given a new Indian name. “NV 200 certainly figures in the five car models that Nissan wants to make completely in India. With regard to any further sourcing for the cars parts for the high end variants Mr. Jain said that “Importing will be an option only for high-end international products”.

On its plans for the main stream Indian auto market Nissan, with the likes of Bajaj and Renault, is already working on a low cost car. Nissan this time is surely considering a small car for the Indian market after the launch of its much famed Nissan Micra. “Seventy per cent of the cars sold in India are below Rs 6 lakh. We are evaluating this segment”, he said.

With the sales figures of 15,000 vehicles for the previous year, Nissan plans to increase the sales up to three times this time with target sales of 40,000 units this year on the back of the good response to its Micra and the recent launch of its midsize sedan sunny.

Maruti Ertiga SUV Review

The country's largest car maker Maruti Suzuki at the Auto Expo made another big bang. The company launched the coveted multi Purpose Vehicle (MPV) Ertiga. It will come in option of diesel and petrol.

Ertiga will come in 1400 cc diesel engine and is available in petrol 1300 C. Maruti claims that Ertiga runs 20 kilometers in 1 liter of diesel. It is being expected that the seven seat of the car price will be in the range of Rs 8.5 lakh to Rs 7 lakh. The MPV March-April will be sold.

The gasoline has a mileage of 16.02 kilometers per liter. The Key Specifications are: Length 4265mm, Width 1695mm, Height 1685mm. It is a VVT K14A (Variable Valve Timing) engine with 70kw/6000rpm, D13A 66kw/4000rpm power and torque of 130Nm/4000rpm, 200Nm/1750rpm.

"Ertiga" is a light SUV in the Indian market. A compact, small displacement vehicle with "compact 3-row seat". Yet, spacious with interior comfort and adults can ride well in the third column, good maneuverability due to its compact size, high economic efficiency achieved by the engine with low fuel consumption and low emissions.

On the other hand, "Suzuki Motorcycle India" showed new lightweight and compact fuel-efficient 110cm3 "Hayate (Hayate)," and fuel-efficient and stylish new scooter "Swish 125 (125 swish).

With a birth rate still very high compared to the standard of the old industrial countries, India has a very young population, with most families consisting of more than five members. Reason enough for the first local manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki, to develop a new compact MPV 7 seater.

With a modern although almost trivial, the Ertiga has nothing to do with the poverty of Maruti EECO (aka Suzuki Every +) or the Omni, only modernized version of the Suzuki Carry, known at one time We as the GME Rascal in the late 80's. Volkswagen Vento Car Price Review and Specifications

The first feeling is that the Vento is your regular German made medium sized saloon. Well sculpted, sleek and designs that are underplayed make it look sturdy. While the road clearance is good the drawback is that the 15 inch wheels don not quite utilize the arches. The Vento does make up with larger back tyres than its Polo cousin allowing for a large back space.

Once you are inside you get what you wanted. The designs are really underplayed with no nonsense flashy dashboard. The controls are easy on the eye and the interior quality comes as a surprise when compared to its Indian competition. The finer details are all taken care of like the front occupants seat that can be leveraged using a lever from the back seat. The back seats are relaxing with good height support allowing up to three passengers at the back. Like the trademark Volkswagen style all the seats are well cushioned and have a good finishing.

Volkswagen is available in 1.6 liter, 105 horse power petrol and diesel variants. These engines are accompanied by five speed manual gear. You can also go for a six speed auto version in the spark ignition variant. The auto version though might not speed up as quickly as you would like. It involves a bit of gear work during the overtaking maneuver. The engine does make you zoom around the city streets and even cruise at high speeds.

As mentioned earlier the auto gear lacks the punch in the power department as they wanted to be cost efficient. The Vento has a normal torque converter transmission. So if you want to just stroll across your journey the auto transmission is what you need. The gear transmissions are silent and the delay ratios are a no fuss. But the fun part is really thrown out of the window as the shifts are pretty slow and the engine starts panting when compared to the manual gears. The lack of dead pedal is surely a huge miss in an auto gear.

The common rail diesel seems to have all the right nodes to it. Though you will manage to stay away from the bog zone you cannot escape the lag. The Vento is reliable, safe and a simple rider control makes for easy drive in the city traffic. The tyres are really gripping but there might be a hint of body roll. It takes every terrain in its stride. A few bumps did manage to sneak in but that was when we were four up and fully loaded.

All the brothers and sisters of the Vento come with rear armrest. The dashboard sure makes for a dashing appearance with a music player, climate control, electric mirrors, alloy wheels, remote locking, trip comp and a couple of airbags.

The Vento surely is not the one to be overlooked for the solid build, the underplayed class and for its diesel version. It starts from Rs 6.99 lakh for the trend line petrol and goes on to Rs 9.23 lakhs for the high line diesel.

Hyundai Eon Car to Stay on the Roads for a Long Time to Come

Hyundai Eon pegged at an entry price of Rs 2.5 lakhs (ex-showroom Delhi) will be exclusively made in India. The car will come in both manual and auto gear option as well. From the first looks we can tell you that the Hyundai Eon is going to stay on the roads for a long time to come.

Initially the Hyundai Eon was kept under the wraps with the codename HA. The Hyundai Eon is expected to battle with other small cars like the Maruti Alto and the Maruti A-Star and is all set to dethrone Maruti as the market leader in the small car segment. The car looks neatly done with utmost care taken even for the minute details. The Eon certainly has the looks to keep your eyes gazed on it for quite some time. The Hyundai Eon too also embodies the modern fluidic styling and gives it all the characteristics of a low cost car. The wheel arches and shoulder line are all quite intriguing for a small car and don’t be surprised if you ever come up across something similar to the Eon only in the likes of Mercedes-Benz CLS. The front fiasco has a shade of the Hyundai’s hexagonal grille up front and eye catchy floodlights with the chrome.

“New car launches are determined on the basis of the long-term outlook on a market. Our outlook on the Indian market in the medium and long-term is very positive. We want to address the Indian customer with regular product launches," Hyundai director (marketing & sales) Arvind Saxena said. "Eon is the best bet for Hyundai to increase sales after relatively sound success of its smaller cars like Santro," said a Mumbai-based auto analyst.

The wheelbase is similar to the likes of other small car contemporaries with measurement of 2380mm. However it is on the shorter side compared to the Santro and light in weight as well. The Eon has a three-cylinder copy of the Santro IRDE engine. With 814cc and 56bhp you will have something left to rev it up. The refinement of the three-cylinder falls short of expectations as there seems to be considerable amount of vibration at idle. The engine even rattles at times but does seem to respond on higher rpms. In the mid range the car seems to have the entire world under its control and will most probably ease you through any city terrains.

Mahindra and Ssangyong Release a New Line of SUVs

Mahindra & Mahindra and the Ssangyong Motors will soon start to reap the benefits of their partnership. They will soon start to work on a new line of sport utility vehicle. The cars are expected to hit the Indian market in two to three years.

“We will soon start conceptualizing a utility vehicle together,” said B. Bhaumik, senior vice-president and head of product development (auto division) at Mahindra and Mahindra. “It will be a premium SUV in the range of Rs. 15-20 lakh.” The outcome of the partnership is expected with baited breath as both the companies are known for their expertise in the utility vehicle segment.

Mahindra has a stake of seventy percent for Rs. 2,105 crore and is looking to further its ambitions in the global markets and the range of offerings.

“We will be sharing each other’s platform to develop vehicles,” said Rajesh Jejurikar, chief executive (automotive), Mahindra and Mahindra. “The discussions regarding developing a joint product are at final stages.”

Mahindra will further add advantage to Ssangyong’s expertise for its venture in the Indian market. “Very soon we will be forming a cross-functional team to look after the interests of both the companies,” Jejurikar said. “So far, the strategy is to bring in products at (the) top end from Ssangyong, while the needs of (the) lower end will be taken care of by Mahindra.”

While industry experts are of the opinion that the partnership is expected to work in the positive direction and only add to more volume demand as Mahindra is already a leader in the segment. “The Rs. 15-20 lakh range is mostly dominated by sedans like Honda Accord and Toyota Camry while on the SUV front, you only have Tata Aria and Skoda Yeti,” said Yaresh Kothari, sector analyst at Angel Broking Ltd. “A locally produced vehicle in that price range will attract a lot of buyers.”

Ssangyong will also begin a proposed chain of service outlets, Jejurikar said, was a “step towards further strengthening our presence in the SUV segment... These outlets will cater to the needs vehicles placed above the Mahindra Xylo.”

Hyundai Eon Car Price Review and Specifications

The small cars from Hyundai always seem to hog the big lime lights. From the Santro to the i20 they have all had their share of the success. Hyundai is now ready to move to the next level to even replace the likes of the Santro with agent HA. Hyundai Eon had been earlier codenamed as HA. The car is expected to hit the roads by the second week of October.

The car is expected to carry the next design legacy of the “Hyundai Fluidic Concept”. In terms of cost the car has come up trumps with just under 3 lacs. The headlamps to the grille, all are reminders of the new Hyundai design concept. The side looks though would give you a familiar feeling with some similarity to the merc cars. The car seems to have hit all the right nodes in terms of the looks.

The car has been trimmed in the right areas with no extra length or space. The wheel base of the car is shorter when compared to the Santro. The wheelbase stands at a measurement of 2380 mm and so it might not stand up to the tall boy looks and space of the Santro. The interiors would be some what similar to the likes of the Nano. The inside of the car is surely more premium compared to the Nano both in terms of the quality of equipments and the upholstery. Even other competitors like the Alto, Spark and A-Star would only be a pale shadow compared to the Eon. The entertainment is taken care by a standard CD player with other assorted items in the high end versions. The cubby holes in the Hyundai Eon more than makes up for the lack of space. The leg space is one of best in class with a capacity of up to 218 litres.

 

The chassis is like the one in the i10. This means that the driver experience and the performance of the car will also be up to the level of the i10. The visibility on the road could be a problem towards the rear as the steeply raked in column reduces the visibility to near zero. This could probably be a well thought out plan to promote the rear parking sensors as accessories for this car.

The Hyundai Eon has the same engine from the Santro with a maximum power of up to 56 bhp. The car is expected to come with a five speed manual transmission gear shift. As per ARAI reports the car has a petrol thirst at every 21 kms. The icing on the cake would be the price factor with Hyundai Eon being just under the price of 2.75 lakhs for the base variant it could sure be a car to watch out for.

Skoda Mission L Car Will Be Released by the End of 2011

Skoda MissionL will be released by the end of 2011. This was revealed at the ongoing world’s biggest auto show in Frankfurt. The Skoda Auto division’s Czech division confirmed that the car will be on the Indian roads by 2011 and the car will fall in the compact car segment.

“The MissionL will be launched in Europe, Russia and China in 2012, and the customers in India will see it arrive in the market even earlier, before the end of 2011,” this was confirmed by Skoda. Skoda also confirmed that the car is almost complete and will soon start large scale production.

“This new compact model and the new products to follow are a guarantee of accomplishing our goal to increase global annual sales to 1.5 million by 2018. We are going to present a new car approximately every six months,” said Skoda Board Chairman HC Winfried Vahland.
Similar to the likes of SEAT IBL concept, the Skoda seems to get inspired from the VW Jetta platform. Even the sharp curve lines on the flanks and discreet door handles are similar to the Spanish touch from the Jetta.

The customers can lay their hands on the new Skoda by fag end of 2011.The car is expected to be more of a sedan and not the usual hatchback. This move is said to have been devised in order to suit the target audience.

The company’s Board Chairman Prof Dr hc Winfried Vahland said the launch of this car is said to mark the beginning of a new approach from the Skoda car makers. He said that the new small car model is the just the start of their aggressive campaign in achieving the sales target of 1.5 million by 2018. Keeping this in mind the company plans to launch a new car at least once in every six months.

Speaking on the design of the car Eckhard Scholz from Skoda says that the “We have taken a pure approach to this design study. The car has a strong, sporty look that conveys a beautiful simplicity and a youthful and contemporary appearance. Many people look for clean, minimalistic lines, and the MissionL concept offers that.”

The Skoda’s strong sales approach seems to have so far gone the right way. The sales have grown by 18.3 % to 583,600 cars for the year 2011 until now. The January to August sales in China have grown by 29.2% alone that roughly translates to a whooping 148,862 cars on the road. In Russia, the sales for the year 2011 so far has stood at 43,604 vehicles. Skoda India has so far sold 18,980 cars. All these numbers add up to a huge growth of 50.4% in the comparison to the sales target of the previous years.

The Skoda MissionL can be expected to give stiff competition to other small cars like the Maruti Suzuki Alto, Hyundai i10 and the Chevrolet Beat.

BMW Mini Cars Comes at Just 25 Lakhs

BMW Mini, the pioneers of modern cars is coming big way into the Indian market. In fact the launch of the cars has gained steam and the upcoming Delhi International auto expo in January 2012 could well see the unveiling of the Mini cars.

While speaking to the reporters at the ongoing Frankfurt Auto Expo, Member of the board of management, BMW Group, said Harald Kruger said, "We are introducing the Mini in India to build our brand image."

While, further informing about this iconic brand, Mr. Kruger said, "A lot of Indians who have studied abroad are familiar with the brand. They are our potential customers. They perhaps drove the Mini when they were abroad and will miss it when they are back in India. While Mini in the rest of the world is an ageless brand, in India, we think it will have a huge potential for the young people." "It can be driven for an evening dinner out or to a sports event or as a city runabout."

The car imported to India will be a completely built unit. This follows the same trend the way the cars like Volkswagen’s iconic Beetle and Fiat’s popular 500 model were imported. This means that the Mini Cooper will be levied a 102 percent import duty. The starting price tag of BMW Mini is expected to be Rs 23 lakh in the country.

The company will launch the entire variants in the BMW Mini inclusive of the BMW Cooper, BMW Countryman, BMW Clubdoor and the BMW Cabrio. The high end Clubman would reportedly be priced at the 30 lakh range which would also include a total sports deal and accessories. The Mini is expected to be accompanied by other luxury hatchbacks like the Mercedes-Benz BClass and the Audi A3 next year.

Renault Is All Geared up for a Triple Bang

Renault India just seems to not stop. With the year end just round the corner the company is going all out to end the year with a bang.As earlier mentioned in the previous reports the company is planning to launch three more cars.

The three cars would also include a small car which seems to be the buzz word these days among the Indian auto markets. This was revealed by a company top official. All these cars are exclusively part of Renault Company and it has nothing to do with any of its previous associations with the Mahindra. Even the future associations if any have nothing to do with company’s present cars being launched. They are totally owned by the Renault right from the Auto Cad part to the on road release of the cars. The Renault Vice President (Sales and Marketing) Len Curran was all strong about Renault going single in the Indian auto circuit at least for the time being.

First of the three cars would be the genesis of a small car. The latter would be a mini sports utility vehicle for the off beat and comfort car owners. The final car in the trilogy would be the entry segment luxury car which would most probably be a sedan. This is part of the company’s plans to be in the top three car makers of the Indian market.

On the eve of the Renault Koleos launch, Len Curran added that the car was particularly launched in Kerala because of its strategic business proposition. Currently in Kerala for every 1000 people, 40 of the people own a car.

As of now the number is fourteen with respect to the dealerships in Kerala. The company plans to add another 40 by the mid year of 2012. Renault Koleos has so far been debuted only in India.

The price of the car stands at Rs 22.94 lakh (ex-showroom). The Koleos is created at the Renault's Chennai plant, which has a production capacity of 50,000 cars annually.

Biggest Auto Car Bonanza Is on at Frankfurt

International Motor Show
is now underway at Frankfurt, Germany. The show is host to some of the biggest auto launches and this year was no exception. In spite of the global economic turbulence the show had at least over 1000 participants from over 35 nations and is expected to garner up to 80 new launches in the forthcoming days.

Audi this year has gone all out with its next gen space theme display exhibition. In fact the exhibition area was big enough to test drive the Audi cars. The Audi RS5 updated version was unveiled. Other cars shown were the RS version of A3 and the TT. The new A2 hatchback concept car was also showcased.

Jaguar and the Land Rover too had some tricks up their sleeve. Jaguar showed the CX-16 sports car. The Rover yet again went off road with the DC100 and DC 100 sports variants. Volkswagen too not wanting to be left behind showed its class. The Volkswagen Up ! Car was the most talked about small car. It expected to compete with the likes of the Hyundai i10 and Maruti Suzuki Wagon R.

The Skoda showed the MissionL concept. Inspired from the Volkswagen Vento , it is expected to compete with the Honda City. Porsche showcased their new 911 with the same old fervor and fun. The Lamborghini unveiled its Gallardo Super Trofeo Stradale, a slim version of the Gallardo super car and the Bugattic revealed its Veyron, which seemed a bit awkward. Bentley came up with their racy car the Continental GTC.

The Mercedes-Benz showed its class with new B-class MUV which is expected to land in India in 2012. It also revealed was the next gen S-class. Honda came up with its next line of Civic for which we will have to wait until the 2012.

Hyundai made its presence felt with the Hyundai i30 with some updated tweaks to the car. The Hyundai i30 looks to underpin the Elantra and is a competitor to the Honda Civic and the Toyota Corolla. It is expected to be on roads again by 2012. Maserati came up with their Jeep base and is all set to enter the Indian markets.

The trend was set up by the European luxury car makers which indicate the focus is on the premium segment with focus on technology, hybrid variants and pollution levels. Small cars too seemed to be the focus of some auto makers like the Volkswagen.

Citigo Is the Newest and the Smallest Car from the house of Skoda

Skoda Citigo is the newest and the smallest car from the house of Skoda. The Czech car maker is gearing up the car specifically for the Indian markets although initially the car was planned for the Europe. The past efforts from the company to break into the compact car segment in the Indian market with the Skoda Fabia was not very fruitful and is now once again planning to gulp up some big volumes by launching the entry level product.

"The Citigo, which is mainly a small car for the Europe, also has potential in a market like India," said the Skoda Auto Global chairman Winfried. Vahland, who was in India to monitor the making of the upcoming entry level sedan Skoda Rapid (inspired from Volkswagen Vento), adding that India remains one of the key markets for the company globally, along with China and Russia.

"We are very optimistic on the Indian market and expect growth rates between 10% and 20% in the coming years."

The Skoda Citigo will be launched in the Czech market in late 2011 and in Europe by the start of summer 2012. The car is yet another proof of the company's policy of value for money brand within the Volkswagen (VW) stable, the Citigo will be a cost efficient car compared to the Volkswagen Up!

Vahland further stated that the Citigo’s entry into India will be more as a supporter to the Volkswagen. "If it makes sense, we will do it together with the group." Reports also reveal that the brand treatment for the Citigo will have the same strategies and synergies to that of the Volkswagen Up! This is expected to be on the roads next year.

Vahland said the company is looking to rake up sufficient sales volume in India. "The Rapid is the first model in this direction and it is the first car from the Skoda brand which has been designed, keeping in mind the special needs of Indian customers. It will be manufactured here."

The Skoda Rapid will make its debut in India in December and will brush shoulders with the likes of Nissan Sunny, Toyota Etios, Maruti Dzire, Ford Fiesta Classic and Tata Indigo Manza. The car will be priced lower than Volkswagen Vento, whose price starts at Rs 7lakh
