Natural Treatment for Cold, Sinus, Ear Pain, Deviated Nasal Septum without Surgery

Best part is SINUSITIS, ear pain, allergy in most cases are actually linked. So all those who are here because of sinusitis, RHINITIS, COLD, ear pain can be benefited  as well.

Deviated Nasal Septum Treatment without surgery in most cases is also actually possible. Easiest way to solve any problem is first understanding it fully. So if you know about use of sinus. You can know what to do for cold, sinusitis, ear pain or DNS (Deviated Nasal Septum) - yes, you can. In fact, you can find a method that works for you.

However, since its related to your health always be SURE of what you are doing. You can consult a medical expert as well. So let us start to know about Deviated Nasal Septum Treatment without surgery.

Sinus cavities are like small water pockets in the head. Any air, dirt or dust is not inhaled directly by us.

The dirt sticks in this mucus, hair in nostrils and only fresh oxygen goes into your body and lungs and so on.

This is just one of uses of sinus. So as i said, these sinus cavities or water pockets gets inflamed or blocked when there is too much dust, allergy, due to cold or sinus then you will start breathing less oxygen (you wont notice the difference but you are breathing less).

In most cases, after sometime it should become normal, however, if nasal area is blocked due to deviated nasal septum and for a long time, you get less oxygen, less breathing, So the tiredness, more complications.

Yes, Deviated Nasal Septum Treatment without surgery is possible, why? Simply, touch your nose. Now apply gentle pressure, sneeze, inhale deeply, exhale. Can you see that nose expands as well. This is because the nasal bones are flexible. They are brittle but bendable.

Due to injury, or due to sneezing or due to some external accidents we can get a deviation in our nasal bones. This means your nostrils inside are blocked. You are not breathing properly, mucus is not draining easily.

Doctor usually suggest antibiotics. If it does not work they suggest surgery and straighten the bone but since bones are flexible, as you sneeze, sleep, blow your nose, there are chances it will bend again. That is why lot of people get back the symptoms.

However, on a serious note for the solution the best person to get cured is you yourself. Yes, don’t stop till you find the solution but again be calm and confident and don’t get frustrated.

Meanwhile hope I can help you with the answer.

You have to find out why your DNS problem is causing you cold, sinus, rhinitis etc . Once you find it, then its easier to get cured.

Truth is most people have a small amount of deviation in their nasal cavities. Only if the deviation is severe, it starts to cause sinus, cold, tiredness, allergy.

Otherwise in most deviated nasal septum cases it is not a problem because a pin hole space is enough for us to breathe air.

Usially a lot of factors like sedantory life, poor diet, weak immune adds to worsening your deviated nasal septum.

Say somebody with 60 percent deviated nasal septum will not have a any issues if they are healthy, physically active and dont have any cold related issues like allergy, asthma, sinus.

But someone with a slight deviation in their nasal area with low immune, sedantary life style, always exposed to cold wet conditions will get affected by poor breathing leading to further complications like Sinusitis.

So sometimes just taking care for your symptoms should solve your problem.

For eg: If sinus is because of the weather then you just need to keep your self warm.

If sinus is because of your lifestyle like late eating, late waking, lot of dairy products then you have to change your lifestyle.

While these are mostly acute or common problems, sooner or later your headache should go.

However, If sinus has been there for quite a few months and in case it is because of a underlying medical condition like deviated nasal septum, weak immune system, then you have take it a little bit seriously and get rid of the problem.

Try taking some basil leaves on daily basis. Its the best antiviral you will not get cold. Simple remedy - Just chew basil leaves (keep bunch of leaves and chew whenever possible) or drink amla juice (do not drink more than what your body can take, else you might puke, start with limited quantity. Once you feel better you can stop.

Also try Neti Pot ( Please Google -Nasal irrigation), is excellent. It hardly takes 5 minutes everyday. It might be hard in the beginning but don't give up. Surely, if you get a Good Yoga Teacher he can help you in 3-6 months time.

Always use absolutely clean mineral water quality water.

Salt should be free of dirt.

Amount of salt can be decided by you. If you feel very salty and water irritates your nostrils, reduce the salt.

But remember use salt in water, as it is heavier than mucus density in sinus, and salt water as its heavy compared to your mucus density will help you cleanse your sinus.

Take turmeric - add pinch of turmeric in milk, or water and drink 2–3 times a day. Turmeric is one of best anti inflammatory ingredient and keeps your immune on high score.

Drink Amla juice - take one amla (Indian gooseberry), cut it boil it in water (Ideally 350 ml water, after boil, water quanity would have reduced) and drink after cooling it.

You might puke or feel uneasy and get runny nose but don’t worry. Your body has started to remove the infection from your body. Do it continuously for 10 days.

It will be gone and took you just five minutes everyday without any injections, antibiotics etc.

Amla Juice should not be taken more than reqired. Start with one spoon, if you find improvement, use one spoon only.

If no improvement, try two spoons, but never take if you are not able to handle it or feel puky, acidity or uncomfortable. Once you feel better you can stop.

If possible meet a ayurveda doctor and ask what is right quantity for your body. Mix with lukewarm water and drink.

Dilution should be 1 spoon amla juice mixed in 50 ml water. No cold or very hot water. Preferrably drink on empty stomach or one after food or 2 hour before food.

Check if its severe deviated nasal septum. With Balloon Sinuplasty, there is no cutting of nasal bone or tissue. With Balloon Sinuplasty, ENT doctors open inflamed sinuses in the same way that heart surgeons open up blocked arteries during balloon angioplasty.

The procedure is less invasive than traditional sinus surgery, and effective at relieving symptoms of chronic sinusitis.

Balloon Sinuplasty allows patients to return to normal activities quickly. Unlike conventional sinus surgery, it does not include removal of bone or tissue from the nose.

And, Balloon Sinuplasty is now offered by some doctors in their office under local anesthesia, so that there is no need to go to an operating room or undergo general anesthesia.

While recovery time varies with each patient, recovery is typically fast. In a study of in-office balloon dilation, most patients returned to work and normal activity within 2 days.

However, even I am suffering the same since childhood, though in my case it is just moderate.

Again, in my experience, I have also seen patients find no relief in Sinoplasty but still its far better and you get immediate relief to a major extent in most cases.

See its like this there are chances you will get completely cured or in case the symptoms might return as well.

Its just sometimes you are body is susceptible to DNS.

So, in the long run if you have the time and patience and believe in holistic healing, then I would suggest you go for Yoga and practice breathing excercise also called Pranayam.

Some of them are alternative nostril breathing (AnilomVilom) and Kapalabhati. With these techniques you can surely get cured of your DNS but it will take around 6 months to 1 year.

But life long you will be cured. You just have to find a right Yoga Guru and you have to increase the intensity of the breathing excercise as you start.

Nasya or Oil drops in Nostril (easiest method, in a very short (might vary from person to person), time you will get cured)-.

Nasya (Just read up on it) - usage of nasal drops to relieve nasal congestion.

Nasya - I would actually suggest you consult an ayurvedic doctor. Else you should fully be aware of all the things before you administer the Nasya yourself.

[expand title="CLICK HERE to be aware of all the things before you administer the Nasya yourself."]

It is not that complicated but it requires that you follow the steps correctly, else it can lead further complications. And later people end up blaming Ayurveda.

When to Administer Nasya:

Rutu:- Nasya should be given in pravrt, Sharad and Vasanta Rutus. Time schedules in different seasons should be as follows
Grishma Rutu Before noon
Sheeta Rutu Noon
Varsha Rutu Day should be clear.

Age:- Nasya should not be given in persons below 7 years and after 80 years. Thus Nasya is indicated between 8 and 80 years of age.
However the following exceptions have also been admitted.

Pratimarsha may be administered at any age between birth to death while Dhuma is indicated after 12 years of age. Sneha pana should not be given immediately before Nasya karma.

Seasonal administration of Nasya to a healthy person:
Sheeta kala – Noon
Sharad and Vasanta – Morning
Grishma rutu – Evening
Varsha rutu – When the sun is Visible

According to Sushruta nasya should be given for 21 days or till the appearance of adequate effects on the other hand according to Vagbhata, Nasya should be given for 7 days.

Instructions for the patients during Nasya:
As described by Charaka, Vagbhata and Sushrtha the following instructions should be observed by a patient while undergoing Nasya karma.

Kawalagraha and Gandusha Dharana
Diet – Warm water (Sukhoshna jala)
Light diet (Laghu ahara)

Following should be avoided:
Shitala Jala (cold water)
Dosha prakopaka ahara (abhishyandi)
Rajodhuma (dust and fume)
Sneha (oils and ghee)
atapa (sun and heat)
Madya (alcohol)
Shira Snana (bath by head)
Atiyana (travelling)
Krodha (anger)
Nidra (sleep)

Features of adequate Nasya:
Laghawa (lightness in the body)
Nidra (good sleep)
Shira Laghutwa (lightness in the head)

Features of excessive Nasya:
Shirahshula (headache)
Indriya Bibhrama (confusion)
Kapha Srawa (salivation)

Nasya Vyapada (complications):
The complications Nasya karma are many and they occur due to administration of Nasya when it is contraindicated due to technical failure

These complications occur through following two modes:
Doshotklesa — which can be managed by Shodhana and Shamana Chikitsa
Dosha kshaya — which has to be managed by Bramhana Chikitsa

Persons unsuitable to nasal medication :-
Nasal medication should not be administered to persons who
have just then consumed water, wine, artificial poison (Garavisha – chronic poisoning) and fat (as part of Snehana therapy) or who wish to consume them, soon,
who is suffering from indigestion,
who have taken food just then,
who have just taken bath or who desire to take bath-soon. Ideally there should be a minimum gap of 30 minutes between bath and Nasya treatment.
who has just taken oil or fat
who is suffering from excessive thirst
who is suffering from excessive hunger
who is severely tired,
who have had blood letting therapy- or severe bleeding due to other causes,
who are having acute rhinitis,
who has consumed alcohol
who is suffering from acute fever,
who is suffering from acute cold,
who are getting natural urges of the body, like urge to urinate, defecate etc.
the woman who has recently delivered,
patients of dyspnoea, COPD, Asthma and cough,
those who have undergone purification (Panchakarma) therapies
who have been given Basti treatment – just then,
at unsuitable seasons and
on Sunless cloudy days except in emergency.
Infective Rhinitis,
who has have drunk wine,
People with low ears- low hearing capacity
in whom, in the Doshas are greatly imbalanced and moving from place to place;
Nasya should not be administered to those who are less seven years and more than 80 years of age;

Right time for Nasya therapy –
Nasal medication should be administered in
morning – if Kapha is increased.
Mid day – if Pitta is increased
Evening – if Vata is increased.
During Sharath (Autumn) and Vasantha (Spring), it should be given in forenoon.
During winter, it should be given in midday.
Evenings in summer,
when there is sunlight during Varsha- rainy season.

Procedure for Nasya treatment –

If there is urge to urinate or defecate, finish that first.
It is better to brush the teeth first, if you are doing it in the morning.
For your case, Take plain EDIBLE (Not sesame oil used for pooja) sesame oil.

Lie on a cot in a room devoid of breeze or excess sunlight.
For convenience, keep a thin pillow below neck.

Lie straight with his face upwards, extending arms and legs.

Two drops of the oil are instilled into each nostril, later in ears and eyes as well. For faster relief for ears (only), you can use Baidyanath Brand Bilva Taila.
This can be done by another person. Because while self administering, one may miss the target

After instilling, soles, neck, palms, ears etc. should be massaged- mildly.

After about 30 minutes, sputum along with medicine may come out. You have to spit it all out.
If you feel excess of heat / burning sensation, then wash your face with cold water.

After this procedure, one should lie with face upwards, for 2 minutes.

Then, ideally, smoke inhalation with medicated herbs and mouth gargling should be done, to cleanse the throat.

Symptoms of good Nasya procedure –
Breathing without difficulty
Good sleep
Improved strength of sense organs

Symptoms of inadequate Nasya –
Vision problems
Emaciation, dryness of nose and mouth
feeling of emptiness in head
If you feel these symptoms, then repeat the procedure of Nasya.

Symptoms of excess Sneha nasya –
Itching
Feeling of heaviness of the head,
Excess salivation,
Anorexia
Rhinitis
are signs of excess of Nasya.
Pratimarsha cleanses, clears the channels, relieves fatigue, improves eye sight, bestows sturdiness to the teeth and mitigates the Vata.

Benefits of Nasya treatment –
The skin, shoulders, neck face and chest become thick, well developed and bright;
The body parts and the sense organs become strong
disappearance of grey hairs will be obtained by persons who becomes habituated to nasal medication.

How it works:

The medicaments administered through the nostrils pervade into the nervous and venous system present in and around the nostrils.

Then they evacuate the morbidity present or distributed in nearby area. Thus it relieves the blockage of the channels and the diseases are cured effectively.

Rationality of nasya therapy:
It is a well-known factor that the olfactory centre is located in the temporal lobe of the brain. The filaments of first cranial nerve, Olfactory nerve arise from the upper parts of the nasal mucosa, from where the minute fibrils pass to meet with the fibres from olfactory bulb.

This nerve passes the cribriform plate present over here and joins the olfactory centre in the temporal lobe of the brain.
As mentioned earlier, the numerous capillaries embedded in the nasal mucosa absorb the medicinal principles administered through nasya and produce various kinds of local and systemic effects by mechanical and chemical reactions.

The discharge secreted contain the blocking morbids and are evacuated through nasal route.
Thus the pathological condition is reversed and the disease is relieved.

Q: I feel throat irritation after Nasya?
A: After nasya treatment, gargle with hot water and spit out for 2 minutes time.

Take half a teaspoon of turmeric powder. Add just a small pinch of black pepper powder, mix it with ghee, burn and inhale fumes. This will dry up the remnant Kapha, leftover after nasya.

If you are okay with spices, taking 1 gram of Trikatu powder with honey should also be useful. Or ginger juice – 1 teapsoon with a little honey is also fine to take.

Try Sinol - (Brand - Kumar Ayurved Ashrama), Shadbindu Tel ( I use Baidyanath).

Administer nasya on an empty stomach an hour before or after a shower or exercise to get maximum results. However, you can do whenever you want. Lie down with the head tilted back and put 5 drops of nasya in each nostril. Sniff deeply but slowly, it should not be forced or hurt your insides of the nostrils, then remain lying for a minute or so, to allow the drops to penetrate.

It should come out of your throat from the back of your nose with practice. NO problem if initially it goes into your head. A little ghee or sesame oil is dropped into the nostrils with the little finger, dropper or filler. It should be preferably warm, if not warm, at least not cold.

This, along with gentle massage, helps to relieve blockage and opens the deep tissues. It can be done on a regular basis or occasionally as desired. Hardly takes two minutes.

Initially, the oil might just get blocked, your nose might start running more as the blockage is getting released, you might sneeze more. You might even find the method useless as symptoms might get worse. But see the below diagram of our sinus cavities.

deviated nasal septum treatment without surgery possible if you understand sinus

They are all connected. If you drop oil in ears, it comes out from your mouth or nose. If you drop oil in nose, it come through ears or mouth. Google, you have seen people do squirt milk from eyes etc(Guinness even has a record for it) . Its not magic. Its human anatomy.

Yes, hard to believe. So what you are doing is you are directly ensuring that you remove the blockage. Just imagine, if all your sinus cavities are cleared from blockage, So let it be sinus, deviated nasal septum, dust allergy, or whatever, if no blockage, where is the problem. The methods told by me or no magic or psuedo science.

Yes, modern medicines are good with anesthesia, emergency care, artificial life support system but in this case, i feel these natural methods are better. These are from ayurveda, (Google about ayurveda, offcourse you find a lot negatives but are you trying to say allopathy or anything for that matter in the world is perfect..no right.

So be smart, see if the good outweighs the negatives and you choice is yours) and i am personally benefited with these. Offcourse just took a bit of time and bit of understanding but the cure was permanent.

This is my experience. Now I am just doing Neti Poti or Nasya (Nasya is easiest of all)I am fine but I have to do it religiously without missing. After doing Neti Pot or Nasya just kneel down.

Just bow down on the ground (like namaz posture). Move to the kneeling position. Prostrate and touch your head to the floor with your palms, forehead, nose, knees, and toes only on the floor.

deviated nasal septum treatment without surgery yoga

And keep your forehead on a solid surface (not a bed or pillow), If possible keep your forehead on the hard surface or floor and wait for the feel of your blood slightly pushing downwards and feeling the heat on the forehead. Dont breathe hard.

For a few seconds relax and let the air enter deep inside your head, you will feel the block. Slowly breathe SMOOTHLY in such a way that when you breathe out the water should come out and when you breathe in the water does not further go back into your nose or head.

It should be like, build enough pressure in the nostrils and when you breathe out the water should come out.

Your focus should be on the stomach expanding and contracting. Do not focus on your head or nose, water will enter back into your nose.

In short, the position itself is enough to REMOVE ALL THE WATER. Just BOW DOWN with your knees on a flat and hard surface on the floor.

Feel the heat or flow down sensation on your forehead (which is on the floor) and breathe normally (like you breathe in sleep without any efforts) without any force. Surely water will come out.

You can tilt your sideways and do also.

Off late i also found something called Salt room therapy. While relaxing in one of treatment rooms, customers inhale the dry, salt-enriched air deep down into the lungs, where the healing benefits do their greatest healing.

The salt loosens the mucus, which begins to clear quickly, and inflammation is reduced, which makes more room in the airways for you to breathe. Symptoms subside, sometimes for up to 12 months.

Dry salt air is more powerful than moist air. The negatively charged ions in salt improve our health and mood. Inhaling particles may reduce inflammation and mucus in the lungs, improving most respiratory conditions such as asthma, allergies, bronchitis, sinus congestion and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).

See if you have it nearby or see if you can customize, like use a nebulizer at home. BUT MAKE SURE YOU KNOW HOW TO PREPARE THE RIGHT SALT WATER OR SALINE SOLUTION. PLUS ENSURE ITS HYGENIC AND YOU HAVE CONSULTED A DOCTOR WHILE CUSTOMIZING YOUR SALT ROOM THERAPY USING A NEBULIZER AT HOME.

In all spend few minutes in a day and you will be fine.

As i said, my solutions for deviated nasal septum treatment without surgery might work or not work. But be cool, calm, be reasonable and keep finding the solution.

You will find some solution suited to you, but just be careful about what solution you are doing. If possible consult and then proceed, be it natural or medical etc.
