Why do I see flashing lights when I close my eyes?

When the vitreous gel inside your eye rubs or pulls on the retina, you may see what looks like flashing lights or lightening streaks. You may have experienced this sensation if you have ever been hit in the eye and see "stars." These flashes of light can appear off and on for several weeks or months.

There are two types of photoreceptors in the human retina,

rods

and

cones

Rods

are responsible for vision at low light levels (scotopic vision). They do not mediate color vision, and have a low spatial acuity.

Cones

are active at higher light levels (photopic vision), are capable of color vision and are responsible for high spatial acuity. The central fovea is populated exclusively by cones. There are 3 types of cones which we will refer to as the short-wavelength sensitive cones, the middle-wavelength sensitive cones and the long-wavelength sensitive cones or S-cone, M-cones, and L-cones for short.

How old are you? Hope you have no other eye related problems. Just do eye check and hope your Vitamin A intake is good. Hope you are not into any addictive habits.

You could also be having, Eye floaters are spots in your vision. Most eye floaters are caused by age-related changes that occur as the jelly-like substance (vitreous) inside your eyes becomes more liquid. Microscopic fibers within the vitreous tend to clump and can cast tiny shadows on your retina. The shadows you see are called floaters.

But today we hardly see anything beyond 20 metres, earlier there used to be vast empty spaces and people used to invariably see long distance. Which means their eyes had all kinds of excercise from long to short.

Eyes are like camera lens, we have to see all directions, long distances, short distances. But today maximum we see is TV or a dead end road. Hardly we focus anything more than 10 metres. So eye lens or muscles become weak to are not able to focus long distance.

Plus no computers, mobile or TV or less those days.

Short distance vision problems because, always sitting, using phone, TV, so over use, short distance can also go out of focus.

In case you have no eye problems (do checkup) then your eye floaters are just temporary symptoms or starting symptoms of eye deterioration.

You judge based on your lifestyle, diet, overall health.

Simple ways to avoid this problem.

just put a drop of cooking sesame oil or coconut oil. Do not buy one from cosmetic stores. Use only oil that is of EDIBLE of nature which is good for cooking means good for eyes as well.

Initially eyes will burn, tears will flow. It’s okay, over a period of time. It will reduce. Tears are dirty water. Eyes burn because of dry eyes. Yes, suddenly you water on a hot body what happens?

Same our eyes have lost the liquidity that should be there due to modern lifestyle. We don’t blink much. Nothing to worry, even if it burns everyday. It’s actually not burning. It is heat coming out of your eyes. It’s itching, as oil is going inside eye nerves and clearing the dirt, dryness etc.

BUT ALWAYS use GOOD EDIBLE OIL ONLY. CHECK THE DATE.

While sleeping everyday close your eyes:

Just rotate your eyes clockwise 50 times.
Anticlock wise 50 times.
Move your up 50 times.
Move your eyes down 50 times.

Don’t strain. Start with 15 or 20 and increase gradually. Hardly will take you 2 min. So you have excercised your eye muscles everyday. So they can focus without any problems.

Even if you don’t rotate your eyes, PUT THE OIL IN EYES BEFORE SLEEP. Always HAVE a small dropper if you are travelling as well. It’s like taking bath, brushing teeth. Do it.

Now main thing is Vitamin A.

Have Ghee, enough. I suggest you take a little more than what you feel is enough. Because, today we don’t have a balanced diet like carrots, vegetables, fruits. So atleast take 4 spoons full ghee everybody.

Forget about weight gain, or pimples or heat etc. If your blind….Eyesight is most important.

Olden days people used put drops of oil to their younger ones and ghee was taken by default.

We have complicated even a small problem in today’s life.

100 years hardly people used to wear specs. Yes, there was less awareness, exceptions were because some people had eye diseases. But overall, no eye problems. This we have created in MOST CASES.
